1. Glycerin soap recipe #1: Clear Cleansers
Materials: 450g coconut oil, 170g tallow, 225g castor oil, 110g lye, 280g water, 230g crystallized sugar, 280g 80 proof Vodka
Method: Add the lye to the water slowly, stirring all the while. The lye will heat up the solution very fast and you must be careful. Melt the fats while the lye is cooling. When the lye solution and fats are both at about 1000 temperature, add the lye solution to the fats slowly. Keep stirring to ensure that the lye mixes well.
Keep stirring until the mixture starts to thicken and trace. This could take anywhere from 15-60 minutes. Once the mixture traces pour it into soap molds and leave it to set for 48 hours at least.
Unmold the soap and using gloves grate it. Melt the grated soap over low heat. Add the sugar and alcohol and mix gently. Ensure that no suds are formed during this stage as they can cloud up the bars. Simmer for ten minutes and turn off the heat. Skim off the top layer and pour the rest into soap molds.
Set the soap and it will be ready for use in 45 days!
Variations: This is the recipe for basic glycerin soap. To make the glycerin soap more appealing you can add essential oils, dried flowers and food colors to it.
2. Glycerin soap recipe #2: Romantic Rose
Materials: Glycerin soap base 4 ounces, 2 drops red food color, 1 teaspoon rose essential oil, 5 ml beeswax.
Method: Melt the glycerin soap base in a microwave on extremely slow temperatures. If you try to use high heat the soap will develop spots after only a few weeks storage so go slow. Pour the beeswax into the melted glycerin and stir until it is completely melted and mixed. Add the food color and essential oil. Stir into a homogenous mixture. Pour into a soap mold to set. Your romantic rose glycerin soap is ready to use!
Variations: Instead of rose you can make a soap of any color and scent. Try using lilac food color with lavender essential oil for a refreshing lavender soap. Also, if you get rose shaped soap molds then these homemade soaps make wonderful gifts.
